Giving

Giving

As we move forward in our redeemptive history, we must employ technology; and one major technological advance we must use is that which helps us to give our tithes, offerings, and love gifts to the ministry. And technology aside, nothing has changed with regard to why we give to our Heavenly Father and what we can expect when we do. As a reminder, the scriptures below are just two of many that promise blessing and favor for those who give obediently in order to support the Kingdom and bless others, directly. If you want to know more concerning the reasons we give to the Lord, please read the remaining content on this page. We hope that in so doing you will be enlightened and encouraged to support the Kingdom.

Luke 6:38

38 Jesus said, “Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again.”

Malachi 3:10

10 Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. “Test me in this,” says the Lord Almighty, “and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that there will not be room enough to store it.”

We all know that our Father owns “the cattle upon a thousand hills,” and that “the earth is the Lord’s, the fullness thereof, and they that dwell therein.” Because of this, we can surmise that when we give our tithes, offerings, and love gifts that God doesn’t need our money, as such. Furthermore, we also know that God’s “personal situation” is neither enriched when we give, nor is it diminished when we don’t. In fact, He even says, “if I were hungry I would not tell thee…”

So what is it with giving to God? Well, among others, there are three very practical things at issue, here.

First, there is the notion that when we give to God, it does far more for us than it does for Him. No, we don’t “give to get,” but we “get to give.” In other words, it is a privilege to give to the Lord; and as we do so, He blesses us. Second, we give to the Lord because it builds the Kingdom and enables the Church to pay the bills and other operating expenses it must cover in order to continue furthering the Gospel. Third (and most important) is the idea that when we give to our Heavenly Father, it is a means of worship. Through this worship, we acknowledge that He is the most high God (El Elyon), the possessor of heaven and earth, and the One we rely upon to take care of us and provide every need we could possibly have.

Moreover, in the abstract, if God has you, He has your money. And one of the sure ways to show that God is really in control of your life is by demonstrating the access He has to your possessions and finances. And if he doesn’t have you, that means your money controls your life. So who has you? God or your money?
